An EU Blue Card is a residence permit for highly skilled workers. Unlike a work permit, an EU Blue Card applicant is required to show proof of salary above a set amount, and show proof of qualification in the form of a university degree. An EU Blue Card has the advantage of granting the holder permission to transfer the residence permit to another EU country, if they were to relocate, and offers a reduced period until the holder can apply for permanent residency.

A work permit is a national residence permit granted to employees who relocate to Germany. Unlike an EU Blue Card, the salary requirements are much lower, making it more accessible. Additionally, a university degree is not a requirement for a work permit application.

After 5 years of holding a residence permit, non-EU nationals are granted the right to apply for a permanent settlement permit (permanent residency). This permit grants the holder the right to remain in Germany indefinitely, provided that they keep their primary residency within the country.

(KiTa = KinderTagesstätte/Hort = after school care)
In order to attend a kindergarten, an application needs to be submitted to the local authorities in order to obtain a KiTa voucher. This guarantees that a child will be offered a spot in any kindergarten that has capacity.
A Hort voucher is a similar concept, however it is meant for children of school age. A Hort is an afterschool care program, catering to parents who work full time and cannot look after their children when school finishes.
